Tom, I am really saddened by the proposed legislation for a state dog. Really?!? Of all the issues that this state faces this is the best use of our tax dollars at work? My taxes pay for your income at the State House and there are many pressing issues that concern most Vermonters and this wouldn’t be included in that list. EX.: taxes, school education, jobs, etc. You and your constituents should step up to the plate and concern yourselves with what truly matters and is a most beneficial use of your time and my tax dollars. I am ticked off!!! Thanks for listening.

Hi Mark: I couldn’t agree with you more. Occasionally constituents ask legislators to introduce bills by request. Sometimes it is a fifth grade class doing a “civic engagement” project, or, in this case, someone who loves beagles. If this bill were introduced in the House, where I work, it would probably come to my committee. Just because it was introduced (and received a ton of press coverage) doesn’t mean it will be considered. A bill introduced last biennium asked that the state dog be an adopted dog, rather than a particular breed. I don’t like these bills because they take up time and are distractions. I can honestly say I would not agree with taking the time to listen to this bill — besides, we would hear from 100 different Vermonters who would say their dog’s breed should be the state dog. It would be endless.

Thanks for writing. We have important things to do. This isn’t one of them.
